"I hadn't imagined what Triana's pictures would be like before stepping into her tiny east london studio. What I didn't want to have to say was "my god what's that!". Fortunatley, In the shadowed light of a partially curtained small room several large canvasses were propped up in no particular order and I hadn't had to cry out. Instead I was greatly reassured andstruck with awe. The most immediate sensation that coursed through me was, wow, I recognise these portraits, at least the sitters, Charles Dance and Stephen Fry made themselves known without any formal introduction. Calling to mind something I'd heard thirty years ago, "if it's portrait then let's see who it is" (Rex Dunbar).

Triana is a young self taught portrait painter, her palette and draughtsmanship are teaming with enthusiasm and dexterous intent. Seeing her standing by her canvasses covered in the speckles and brush marks that are the telling signs of an artist lost to the world and wholly absorbed in their craft was a welcome relief, the works are confident personal and interesting, reminding me of the 1920's in some indistinct but catchy manner. Looking at the portraits throws you into her world of solid strokes, rapid daubs and running paint, out of which she brazenly fashions her sitters into striking animated forms. I am already a signed up member of her growing fan club, the question is why aren't you?" Duncan Ward
